UWE glows!

Creative Advent and Christmas market at the Etzdorf substation

The event took place on the first Sunday of Advent in 2025 and combined Christmas spirit with art, crafts and hands-on activities. Unlike traditional Christmas markets, the focus here was not purely on sales, but on shared creative experiences. Visitors were able to get involved themselves – for example, in wood carving, glass engraving, Tetra Pak printing, airbrushing, felting, birdhouse building or blacksmithing. The building was transformed into an open hands-on workshop for visitors, regional traders and artisans offered their products, and artists from the region presented their work and gave insights into their techniques.

The motto of the event is: ‘Tradition is not about preserving the ashes, but passing on the flame.’ This is intended to underline the idea of keeping craftsmanship, creativity and community alive.

‘UWE glüht!’ is part of a larger cultural concept centred around the substation. Throughout the year, other exhibitions, festivals and cultural events take place there. The aim is to establish the former industrial site as an open meeting place for art, exchange and regional networking.
