ZOO di Animali Domestici
‘Zoo di animali Domestici’ – Exhibition series at the Rebel Art Gallery in Chemnitz
The exhibition series ‘Zoo di animali Domestici’ (Italian for petting zoo) is an experimental artistic format that is being shown at the Rebel Art Gallery on Brühl in Chemnitz. The series comprised 11 exhibitions that took place from 27 February 2025 to 29 January 2026.
A central element of the exhibitions was that the artists worked on site during the exhibition period. The gallery thus became an open creative space where visitors could observe the creation of the works. This creative phase not only gave rise to the exhibits themselves, but also to conversations between artists and gallery visitors, which opened up new perspectives on the works. Visitors thus became part of the artistic process and were able to be actively involved in the exhibition – whether through interaction, feedback or spontaneous participation in the projects.
The exhibition uses various media such as painting, graffiti, photography, print and installations to reflect on everyday social realities, personal memories and transience. For example, approximately 3 km of video tape was shaped into a spatial, dynamic body to address the aspect of memory, while photographs provided insights into people's ideas about their ‘last meal’.
The title ‘Zoo di animali Domestici’ is not to be taken literally. Rather, it serves as a metaphor for the gallery, which at that moment represented a kind of living space for the artists. The series was collaborative and brought together contributions from several artists: Dagmar Ranft Schinke, Toymaster Flash, F15 art collective, Philipp Eichhorn, Guido Günther, GOSP, Markus Esche and Didier Scheuren.
With this format, the Rebel Art Gallery created an open, lively space in which artistic processes became visible and visitors themselves could become part of the exhibition. ‘Zoo di animali Domestici’ thus combined artistic diversity with interactive social reflection and made a creative process tangible.
