Chemnitz Summer of Culture

The Chemnitz Summer of Culture was a series of events that took place over 7 weeks and was organised by the European Art Community and various local actors around the Brühl in Chemnitz. It was a diverse and wide-ranging programme that included various cultural events and activities that were always related to the Chmenitzer Brühl.

As part of the "Spektrum Brühl" project, the boulevard was covered in colour with graffiti and street art on a large scale, both temporarily and permanently. In addition, an exhibition, meeting, event and action area - the "Brühl Barlament" (formerly Beta Bar) - was opened at the entrance to the pedestrianised mile throughout the entire period. Open-air events and several small concerts by local bands, street music and the involvement of the Musikkombinat covered a broad spectrum of musical events in the public space of Brühl.

Workshops, lectures and panel discussions created an opportunity to actively participate in the Brühl development process. Various creative formats deepened the idea of active participation for everyone. Outsiders, beginners and interested parties were introduced to the practices of ceramic design, screen printing, graffiti and street art. For music enthusiasts, workshops were offered on the topics of recording studio work, the music business and publishing recordings. There were also panel discussions, readings and information events on urban development, history and design.

The aim of the European Art Community was to provide a temporal and organisational framework for a variety of events and projects for all ages. A core objective was to revitalise Chemnitz Brühl as a living space, neighbourhood and cultural reference point.
